EAS Welcomes New Postdoctoral Researcher Gustavo Cuchiara
Focusing on Air Quality Research in Houston and Southeastern Texas

Gustavo CuchiaraDr. Gustavo Cuchiara is a new postdoctoral researcher working with Dr. Bernhard Rappenglück in a study of ozone pollution in southeast Texas and how this pollution is controlled by changing atmospheric conditions during a 24-hour cycle. The project will also help to further understand the concentration of ozone generated by vehicles during the Houston rush hour. Cuchiara's work will also include the simulation of observed severe biomass burning events on the air quality of Santiago de Chile.

Gustavo obtained his Ph.D. in atmospheric science through the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences also under the supervision of Dr. Rappenglück in December 2015. For his Ph.D., he developed numerical models to study meteorology and air quality. Dr. Cuchiara is a native of Brazil. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Pelotas where he studied air pollution in the Brazilian city of Porto Alegre.
